Bubble Apple pendant lamp Designer: George Nelson An assortment of lights in various spherical shapes, Bubble pendant lamps add a touch of softness and luminosity to the home. Designed by George Nelson in 1952, these elegant lamps are fashioned from a sturdy, lightweight steel frame with a delicate floating quality to them. Nelson was inspired by a set of Swedish silk-covered pendant lamps he wanted to buy for his office. Unfortunately he found the price was too high. Since Nelson was an ingenious and resourceful designer, he set about designing the first set of Bubble lamps, using a translucent white plastic spray, a technique developed by the US military at the time. Nelson drew inspiration from a variety of simple and organic shapes for these designs.
